Description

A place of remembrance opened in 1877 Officially dedicated to Saint-Lazare when it opened in 1877, this cemetery was also known colloquially as "Ramassis", as it originally received only bodies buried in mass graves, in the absence of any concessions. Facing the Thau Lagoon, Le Py Cemetery boasts a number of military squares that commemorate the courageous actions of too many young soldiers, both Sétois and foreign, who fought in the First and Second World Wars, as well as the conflicts of decolonization. Personalities who made Sète famous Beneath its tall cypress trees, other graves keep alive the memory of personalities who contributed to Sète's renown, such as sportsmen Yvan Beck, Alfred Nakache and actor Lucien Barjon. Since October 1981, Georges Brassens has spent his death "on vacation" here, close to his family. Also buried here are Alfred Nakache (1915?1983), swimmer and water polo player, Jean-Baptiste Reilles dit Mac Kac (1920?1987), jazz musician, and Lucien Salette (1879?1937), politician. Georges Brassens' grave ? signposted The grave of Georges Brassens, well signposted, is simple as it was. It is almost surrounded by military squares, even though he was an anti-militarist.
