POUSSANA story set between the Via Domitia and Circulade
Situated on the ancient route of the Via Domitia, halfway between the scrub-covered hills and the shores of the lagoon, Poussan’s old town unfolds in a circular layout around Saint-Pierre Church and the old castle. The 14th-century ramparts, the medieval gates still standing—the Portalet, the Notre-Dame Gate, the Ferrage Gate—and the Renaissance houses on Rue Sadi Carnot tell eight centuries of history as you stroll through the vaulted alleyways. In the centre of the village, the recently restored 1907 market halls have regained their role as a meeting place and now host markets, concerts and cultural events.
Beyond the ancient walls, Poussan opens up its 3,000 hectares of scrubland and vineyards to walkers, overlooking the contrasting landscapes of the wine-growing plain and the nearby Thau lagoon. In the village square, visitors are drawn to linger before the analemmatic sundial, one of the most accurate in France. With its blend of medieval heritage, winemaking expertise and southern charm, Poussan cultivates the art of a tranquil life, deeply rooted in its local area.
