Ciné Art is a monthly event featuring a short talk followed by a film on the life of an artist: Eugène DELACROIXEugène Delacroix was a French painter born in 1798. In 19th-century French painting, he is considered the leading exponent of Romanticism. By the age of forty, his reputation was sufficiently established to allow him to receive major commissions from the state, painting on canvas and decorating the walls and ceilings of public monuments. Eugène Delacroix painted a history picture inspired by the events of 1830, Liberté guidant le peuple, a masterly blend of ancient allegory and contemporary representation. The work was acquired by the French State and exhibited first at the Musée du Luxembourg, then at the Louvre from 1874. Under the Third Republic, Liberté guidant le peuple became an iconic and symbolic work of art.
