Description

On July 4 and 5, 2026, the Quai des Lumières cinema and the BIC invite the public to embark on a new journey into the heart of Belgian cinema. For the past 18 years, this event has become a highlight of the Frontignan summer. The Belgian Film Weekend is a time for discovery, connections, and camaraderie, where cinema is experienced both in the theater and around a table, in conversation, or with a brass band. Over the years, the festival has welcomed notable figures from Belgian cinema such as No%EBl Godin, Frédéric Fonteyne, Abel & Gordon, and Wim Willaert, showcasing the richness and diversity of Belgian and Francophone cinema. This new edition once again promises a concentrated dose of what makes Belgian cinema so charming: films that are daring, funny, socially conscious, touching, and deeply human. On the program: preview screenings, “ciné-goûter” for the youngest viewers, game workshops, moving documentaries, offbeat comedy, cult films, debates, meet-and-greets, an open-air café, homemade mussels and fries, and a festive brass band. Saturday will kick off in the morning with the iconic “potato peel-off” starting at 9 a.m. under the footbridge—a true weekend tradition. Residents, volunteers, curious onlookers, and food lovers are invited to come lend a hand in a warm and welcoming atmosphere before enjoying the flavors of the evening’s grand open-air dance hall together. Beyond the films, the Belgian Film Weekend champions a certain vision of cinema: a cinema that is popular, demanding, and accessible—one that brings generations together and fosters connections. For two days, the Quai des Lumières becomes a festive venue where audiences come not only to watch films, but to share a cinematic and celebratory experience. The Belgian Film Weekend is programmed and hosted in collaboration with the BIC (Brigade d’Intervention Cinéphile) and the Quai des Lumières cinema.
