A Special Opening
The Mont Saint-Clair Lighthouse is one of Sète’s most iconic landmarks—and one of the least accessible. Owned by the government, it opens its doors to the public only on very rare occasions. The 2026 European Heritage Days offer a unique opportunity to explore the interior of this Italian-style lighthouse, built in 1903 and perchedat 92.70 meters above sea level on the southern slope of Mont Saint-Clair.
A one-of-a-kind guided tour
Accompanied by a guide, discover the remarkable architecture of this lighthouse: its octagonal stone masonry tower adorned with corner chains, its lantern crowneda copper dome, and its Fresnel lens system with a range of 29 miles, or approximately 53 kilometers. A journey into the maritime history of Sète and the poetic world of Paul Valéry, whose verses are engraved on the base of the lighthouse: "Its moving eye mingles the flashes of danger with the laughing water and the fickle dance of the waves."

To visit the Mont Saint-Clair Lighthouse as part of Heritage Days, advance reservations are required. Please note: Before confirming your order, be sure to double-check the date, quantity, and desired time slot. Once the reservation is made, it cannot be changed.
