Description

Located at the entrance to the old port, the Sète fish auction is the heart of Sète?s fishing industry, where trawlers unload their ultra-fresh Mediterranean catches every afternoon to be auctioned off to professionals. Dozens of species of fish and seafood are offered for sale, in an atmosphere punctuated by the arrival of boats and the ballet of fish crates. Long renowned as one of Europe?s most modern auctions, it was a pioneer in the computerization of sales and today remains a major site for fishing in the French Mediterranean. Although auctions are reserved for professional buyers, guided tours are offered at certain times of the year, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at this emblematic site and a better understanding of the daily lives of Sète?s fishermen. The fish auction is not open to the public, but the Sète Tourist Office offers guided tours that provide exceptional access to this site usually reserved for professionals.
