PHARE SAINT-LOUIS

The Saint Louis jetty was the first structure to be built when the city was founded in 1666. It is 650 metres long. The jetty has a walkway by the sea that stretches as far as the Saint-Louis lighthouse at its far end, where a verse by Paul Valéry is engraved. It’s also where the marina is located with its 300 mooring rings. Visit to the Saint-Louis lighthouse: The Saint-Louis lighthouse stands proudly at the end of the Saint Louis jetty. Built in around 1680 and destroyed by German mines in 1944, it was rebuilt in 1948. Today it continues to use its red light to signal the entrance to the channel, and it is now open to the public. Come and climb the steps of this incredible observation tower and enjoy a 360° view over the commercial port, the harbour and the old town. A few figures: 2,297 stones, 310 m3 of ashlar, 116 steps, 25.78 m high, 6.5 m in diameter at the base and 4.55 m at the top, 3 m in diameter inside.
