Anau Cove, or La Nau, is the closest beach to Sète town centre. Opening out onto the Mediterranean, there are three designated swimming areas near the cliffs

Le golfe du Lion
Set against the silhouette of Mont Saint-Loup, the ancient volcano overlooking Cap d’Agde, lies the Gulf of Lion with its 300 km of coastline stretching from the Pyrenees to Toulon. Its name is said to derive from its resemblance to a wild beast. For the strength and suddenness of the land winds (the mistral or the tramontane) or the sea winds make sailing in this part of the Mediterranean completely unpredictable.
Even back then, the Romans declared that in winter the Mare Nostrum (Mediterranean Sea) was Mare Clausum – a closed sea, off-limits to navigation because it was too dangerous.

Corniche Natura 2000 Site
Here, “Le bois de mon Cœur“—a place very dear to Georges Brassens, which was destroyed by the Germans during the Second World War—has been restored.
Before you, these rocks tumbling down towards the sea and covered in low-growing vegetation form a remarkable natural site. Marked by the presence of salt and nitrogen, the soils support unique vegetation: lawns of small, tough plants and thickets of bushy shrubs.
The Sète Corniche is part of theEuropean Natura 2000 ecological network, which aims to conserve a range of sites notable for their flora and fauna.
The management of this site, carried out by Sète Agglopôle, has two objectives:
➡️ To limit the impact of visitor numbers by organising a network of access paths to the beaches.
➡️ To remove so-called invasive exotic plants that are displacing valuable native species.
