Tucked away on Quai Adolphe Merle, running alongside the Royal Canal towards the Victor Hugo district,Piou-Piou isthe new cosy haven to discover in Sète. A place bursting with colour, talent and a spirit of sharing, just like Emma, who welcomes you throughout the day. Step inside this cosy haven where art and craftsmanship blend with a second-hand world curated with passion, featuring mismatched tables and chairs, unique tableware and all manner of objects. Come and share a moment with friends over a glass of natural wine, a hot coffee during a break, or a local craft drink with the family. A space for meeting and living where you can simply wander, find inspiration and enjoy yourself.

CHOCOLATES AND TREATS WITH A VIEW

With the summer festivities over, the villages lining the Thau lagoon have returned to their usual tranquillity. After a brisk walk along the shores, wrapped up warm, stop off for a well-deserved break atL’Étangourmand, on Avenue Louis Tudesq in Bouzigues. You’ll be welcomed by Éric’s warm smile as he introduces you to Brigitte’s handmade creations, including ice creams and sorbets that have already won over many a foodie. Perhaps you’ve heard of the oyster ice cream from the Thau basin? Well, this is the place! You’ll also find sweets, Christmas shortbread and 100% homemade chocolates, all made on the premises. Take a peek into the back room; you’ll no doubt spot the artist at work. Take a seat facing the Bassin de Thau, admire the view, and savour the moment.

In the distance, overlooking the lagoon, stands Mont Saint-Clair. Perched at Les Pierres Blanches at the very top of Sète’s famous hill, La Mesa. Step through the door and discover a place steeped in nature, sumptuous and soothing. A refined space amidst Mediterranean vegetation, almost meditative. It feels so good that you’ll want to stay for a warm coffee, breakfast, a drink, or even a small gourmet dish, gazing out at the sea. Enough to let your mind wander for a few hours.

BRUNCHES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

The low season is the perfect time to venture into the Hérault countryside, where the weather bathes the historic centres of our villages in soft light. In Villeveyrac, north of the Thau basin, at 5 Rue de la Coste, you’ll find a place as surprising as it is welcoming:Gastabrunch, a living space set up on the upper floor of a workshop that makes wooden bicycles. Who said brunch is only served between 11am and 1pm? Certainly not Lucas, who serves up pancakes, French toast, club sandwiches and scrambled eggs at any time of day. His signature dish is the incredible smoked trout bagel. To go with it, a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, prepared with love.

In Mèze too, we appreciate moments of conviviality and good food. Whether you’re on your own, as a couple or in a group of ten, don’t miss out on the delights of ‘Nath et Manu’. Head to Rue Garibaldi, to the tea roomLe Temps d’une Pause.Homemade icedteas, herbal teas, fragrant hot teas, syrups, hot chocolates… It’s the perfect spot to catch up with friends, read a book, or simply enjoy a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle. On the menu: fresh, seasonal produce for home-style breakfasts, a flavourful lunch or a sweet afternoon treat.

COFFEE BREAK AND CO-WORKING

When the cold sets in in Sète, the Georges Hostel & Café becomes a haven for the day. Located on Rue Gabriel Péri, this hybrid space combines a hotel, a youth hostel, a café and a co-working space. Here, you can relax with a hot chocolate or a good coffee, enjoying creative chats or working in peace. The communal kitchen and patio are also meeting places for travellers and locals alike. In the early morning, you can enjoy croissants and pastries in a relaxed atmosphere. Le Georges isn’t just a place to stay: it’s a real hub of life.

Across the street, discover La Palantine, the café-canteen of the third-place space La Palanquée. Here, the dishes are seasonal and there’s no set menu; the menu changes daily: traditional dishes, quiches, snacks for those on a tight budget and, of course, vegetarian options. Open from morning until the afternoon, La Palantine is a place in Sète where workers and curious visitors meet over a meal, a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

Sweet treats and creativity

Just a few minutes away, do pop intoLes P’tits Frèresbakeryon AvenueMax Dormoy in Sète, where three brothers, Salem, Amine and Nabil, invite you to indulge in a gourmet treat: pastries, fougasse from Aigues-Mortes, cakes… Here, everything is homemade, from the butter to the baking! Using real, organic ingredients, and above all a desire to restore the authentic flavour to our favourite treats, just as their mum used to do. You’ll also find trompe-l’œil cakes: blackberry, pistachio, mango, hazelnut… There’s something for everyone. To be enjoyed on the premises. And for the residents of Balaruc, good news: you can also find all their creations at 13 Rue des Écoles in Balaruc-les-Bains.
