K-Live

How is this living museum growing? Every year in early June, the K-Live festival showcases street art on the walls of the seaside town. The concept is simple: to give artists ‘carte blanche’.

Scaffolding, round-table discussions, guided tours, performances and concerts all take place. An event with a relaxed atmosphere that showcases leading artists. Sète has made a name for itself in the world of urban art.

Whatever time of year you visit Sète, enjoy the unique experience of discovering or rediscovering the MaCO (Open-Air Museum).

A brief overview of MACO

Here’s a little taste of what awaits you as you wander through the narrow streets of this maritime city.

On Rue Paul Valéry, just a stone’s throw from the central market halls, get ready to admire a monumental mural. A work inspired by classical antiquity catches your eye and bursts forth in XXXL format. Technique used: spray paint.

Andrea Mattoni, an Italian street artist, presents his adaptation of a painting by Joseph-Noël Sylvestre, which can be found in the Paul-Valéry Museum in Sète, not far from here.

Behind you, a portrait of a sailor reminds you that you are in a port. The colours burst forth, echoing the cheerfulness of the neighbouring façades. The two artist brothers, Ratur & Skaro, leave their stylised mark on the entrance to this working-class neighbourhood of Sète.

On the Mont Saint-Clair side

Just a stone’s throw from Paul Valéry High School, don’t miss Codex Urbanus’s work, which reinterprets local legends and pays tribute to the Sète-based painters of the Figuration Libre movement, such as Combas and Di Rosa.

On the slopes of Mont Saint-Clair, you’re sure to fall under the spell of Mademoiselle Maurice’s metal origami. A spellbinding mural that’s an absolute must-see.

In the Upper Quarter

Back in the Haut district, where styles, techniques and colours collide. Here you’ll come across the realistic portrait *‘The Thinker’* by C215, or the humorous portrait of*‘The Tielle Man’* by the ‘globe painter’ Seth.

As you round the corner bySaint-Louis Church, there may not be a wedding that day, but tenderness hangs in the air thanks to the poetic work of the illustrator Dr Ponce.

This unique island has a changing face. The colours of the MaCO shimmer when it is bathed in sunshine. The brushstrokes bring its façades to life when the weather is bad.

As you can see, visiting the MaCO means seeing the city in a different light.
