All the seaside resorts in the Thau Archipelago have beaches equipped with access mats and Tiralos® (beach wheelchairs available at lifeguard stations) suitable for people with physical disabilities to go swimming, but only the beach at Balaruc-les-Bains has the Audioplage® system, which offers visually impaired people the chance to swim freely, completely independently, and in optimal safety conditions.
Balaruc-les-Bains is also one of the few French towns to have been awarded the national ‘Destination pour tous’ label, recognising the spa resort’s commitment to comprehensive accessibility for people with disabilities.
There is no shortage of family-friendly beaches in the Thau Archipelago. InSète, 12 km of fine sand and 6 supervised bathing areas await you: Lazaret Beach(access point no. 1), Fontaine Beach(access point no. 13), Lido Beach(access point no. 22), La Baleine Beach(access point no. 41), Les 3 Digues Beach(access point no. 59) and Castellas Beach(access point no. 70). Note that they are all linked by a cycle path!
InFrontignan-Plage, you’ll have a choice, over 7 km, betweenPort Ouest, Port Est, Les Plaisanciersor the beach at the entrance. The beaches at Mèze and Bouziguesare ideal for toddlers, who can paddle in shallow water with no current. Children are in their element here. InBalaruc-les-Bains, the bathing areas are lined with footpaths and a large jetty known as the ‘Piscine’, from which you can board boats for trips.

It feels like the end of the world. That’s what you’ll find if you choose, for example, Aresquiers Beach, which stretches for around 7 kilometres between Frontignan and Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone. To top it all off, 5 kilometres are closed to road traffic: no cars, no motorbikes, just you in a magnificent face-to-face with the sea.
But getting up close to paradise comes at a cost: the cost of effort! You’ll need to walk through the countryside to enjoy a crystal-clear, almost deserted beach where bathers (and sometimes swimsuits) become a rare sight the further you go. On the sand, a few pebbles smoothed by the waves, driftwood that’s fun to collect, and, in the hollow of your ear, the song of the cicadas, which nevertheless fails to drown out the sound of the waves… Allow 20 to 30 minutes’ walk to reach the most secluded spots. Accessible via the cycle path linking Vic-la-Gardiole to Frontignan.

A run at sunrise, a sun lounger and parasol in the morning, a seafood platter at a beach hut, and a cocktail in the early evening to dance to as the sun sets? You can experience three days in one by heading to Lido Beach, also known as‘Villeroy Beach’.
Along this loooooong 12-kilometre stretch of sand (access point no. 22), you’ll find plenty of restaurants. The best thing to do during the day, however, is to cycle along the cycle path that runs alongside the Corniche de Sète. Distance to Marseillan: 12 kilometres. Journey time: it depends on how many stops you make! Accessible via the cycle path linking Sète to Marseillan.
