Sète, a seaside town

For history buffs, we suggest you start your stay with the guided tour “Sète, City of the Sea”. Meet your guide every Tuesday during the school holidays in the Town Hall Square and enjoy a two-hour journey back in time.

You’ll trace the origins of the town of Sète back to the time of the first developments of the port and the canals that make up the town.

The MaCO

There you are, strolling through the narrow streets of Sète, when your eye is suddenly caught by one, two, three pieces of street art… Who created them? On what occasion were they created? The guide will provide answers to all these questions and offer insights during the guided tour of the MaCO (Open-Air Museum).

Starting from Place Léon Blum, opposite the town hall, you’ll spend around two hours exploring the historic centre of Sète, discovering the work of Julien Seth Malland, Codex Urbanus, C215, Ratur & Sckaro, Sunset, Madame, Eric Lacan…

The little ‘extra’ of this guided tour is that it evolves every year thanks to the new works that come to adorn the MaCO. Each guide will share their favourite artworks with you.

From little Georges to the great Brassens

Follow the different stages of Georges Brassens’ life – born in Sète – at the museum dedicated to him. You can even extend the experience with a guided tour dedicated to the local boy, ‘From Little Georges to the Great Brassens’.

During this guided tour, you’ll journey through his youth and all the places where his character, friendships and love of poetry were forged.
Throughout this tour in the heart of the town, we explore Georges Brassens’ childhood, his friendships, his desire to move to Paris, and his family life as we pass by his birthplace. A two-hour journey through the life of Georges Brassens.

The little “extra” of this tour is the evocation of the artist’s songs, echoing his roots in Sète.

The Molière Theatre, National Theatre

The Théâtre Molière invites you to take a look behind the scenes on a guided tour led by one of the Tourist Office’s guides.

From the basement to the gallery, from the balconies to the boxes, you’ll discover all the secrets of this listed building, as well as the ins and outs of the trade and the jargon used by both performers and technicians. As for the history, you’ll learn how the building came to be and how it has evolved over time.

You’ll even be surprised to learn about the superstitions and legends that shape the world of entertainment.

Intrigued?

At the heart of the fish market

An iconic landmark in Sète, the fish market opens its doors for a guided tour organised by the Tourist Office. Over the course of nearly an hour, discover the history of this fish market, a pioneer in the computerisation of sales, which has developed expertise recognised far beyond the region.

Be captivated by the sellers’ dexterity and the frenetic pace of the transactions, whilst learning about fishing techniques and the secrets of the auction. An unforgettable immersion in the heart of this Mecca of Mediterranean gastronomy!

Balaruc-les-Bains, a town with three distinct identities

This tour takes you on a journey to discover three different aspects of the town: Balaruc-les-Bains, with its spa heritage dating back to Roman times; Balaruc-le-Vieux, a fortified medieval village; and the Usines district, a testament to the industrial era.

Among the heritage sites, you’ll admire the 18th-century Pavillon Sévigné, the 19th-century Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, and the 12th-century Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Eaux. At the same time, the tour highlights the Thau lagoon, a true natural gem with its oyster beds and exceptional flora and fauna.

Immerse yourself in this journey through time and the unique landscapes of the Thau Archipelago.
