Randoland

Fancy making the most of your family holiday whilst having fun exploring the history and spa town of Balaruc-les-Bains with your children? Then the Randoland treasure hunt is just the thing for you! From the age of 4, young and old alike can set off on a roughly 4-kilometre route to try and solve a series of puzzles, using a booklet available on request from the Balaruc-les-Bains tourist information office.

Sévigné Park

Once you’ve managed to solve all the puzzles in your Randoland treasure hunt, do pop along to Sévigné Park for a break. Located right in the town centre, this flower-filled, shaded park also holds a significant part of Balaruc-les-Bains’ history, as it is here that the town’s first spa establishment is found: the Pavillon Sévigné.

Head to the Balaruc-les-Bains tourist information office to see this building, named after the Marquise de Sévigné, and the footbath opposite it. Both children and adults can, for a few moments, enjoy the thermal water that naturally gushes out at 45°C, before heading off to the benches by the fountains, the boules court or the playground, or, in high season, the many events and activities taking place near the Théâtre de Verdure.

Tip: Don’t miss the monthly craft market held here either.

The Manuréva Water Sports Centre

Whether you’re learning independently, on a course (1 to 5 days) or in a private lesson, the Manuréva Water Sports Centre offers endless possibilities for discovering the joys of water sports.

Ideally situated on the shores of the Thau lagoon, it welcomes families, whether you’re beginners or experienced, to try your hand at windsurfing, sea kayaking, catamaran sailing, funboating, stand-up paddleboarding, Optimist sailing…

You can also set sail aboard the Baroulaïre, an Echo 90 (sailing boat), to explore the flora and fauna of the Thau basin, as well as to learn the basics of sailing manoeuvres and how to handle the helm of this sailing boat.

Aqua Turtle

Want to steer a turtle-shaped electric boat without a licence? Go jet-skiing from the age of 7? Pedal across the water on an amazing bike? Fit seven people on a giant paddleboard? These are all the experiences Aqua Turtle offers for the whole family from April to September, whilst enjoying a unique view of the Thau lagoon.

Balaruc-les-Bains by bike

For families who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, it’s perfectly possible to explore Balaruc-les-Bains and the Thau lagoon by bike, for example. With its many cycle paths, the spa town invites you to explore:

  • its peninsula, following part of the Thau basin before reaching the town centre and its shops;
  • its Usines district;
  • Balaruc-le-Vieux via the Crique de l’Angle;
  • Sète and Marseillan-Plage via the Lido greenway;
  • the Camargue via the Via Rhôna, starting from Sète.

Nature walks

If you prefer walking to cycling, why not try one of the many nature walks organised by the EID or the CPIE, starting from Balaruc-les-Bains! Equipped with your best walking boots, a bottle of water, a cap and sun cream, you’ll set off in the footsteps of a passionate guide to discover the iconic landscapes of the Thau Archipelago, as well as its flora, fauna and history.

For example, you can escape to the terraces of La Gardiole, in the old salt marshes of Frontignan, or catch a glimpse of the Gulf of Lion from the heights. For birdwatchers, don’t forget your binoculars so you can watch them flying freely in the Thau Basin nature reserve.

More themed and fun-filled nature outings, aimed at children, are also available throughout the Thau Archipelago. For example, with the EID, you can explore the Frontignan salt marshes as a salt pirate (Boucaniers du Sel) and even at night (Salins by night). For food lovers, nature walks are also available featuring tastings of shellfish typical of the Thau lagoon and even wine, after, of course, a tour of the vineyard or estate.
