Treat yourself to a walk in the countryside

Walks through the salt marshes or the heart of the garrigue, insect and bird watching, visits to vineyards… These are just some of the experiences the Thau Archipelago Tourist Office invites you to enjoy on a ‘Nature Walk’.

(Re)discovering iconic places

Whether you’re a connoisseur of the wild landscapes that make up the Thau Archipelago or just starting out, each ‘Nature Walk’ offers a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history, flora and fauna that characterise the area.

So we look forward to seeing you just a stone’s throw from the Occitan villages of Balaruc-les-Bains, Frontignan, Loupian… To (re)discover the terraces of La Gardiole, the old salt marshes, the Bois des Aresquiers, Saint-Félix Abbey, the Gulf of Lion…

So, keep your eyes peeled so you don’t miss a thing of the landscapes of the Thau lagoon and the Mediterranean Sea unfolding before you.

Some rather unusual ‘Nature Walks’…

If you’d like to add a bit of excitement to your getaway in the unspoilt surroundings of the Thau Archipelago, we recommend opting for a more unusual ‘Nature Walk’. Of those offered by the Thau Archipelago Tourist Office, we’ve picked out two favourites.

For the little ones, why not let them become a “Salt Pirate” for an hour in the old salt marshes? As well as catching a glimpse of the amazing ballet performed by the birds above this vast white expanse, they’ll be able to step into the shoes of a salt worker and discover all the secrets of salt.

For the older ones among you, we dare you to venture alone into the old salt marshes at night. Well, almost on your own, as you’ll be accompanied by Laurent, a guide for “Salins by Night”. This amazing experience, as well as stirring up a range of emotions, will allow you to find your way using the constellations and walk in the footsteps of the salt workers of old.

Check our ticket office every month to discover the new “Nature Walks” and their themes: cultural, culinary…

Fancy a themed workshop?

Another option for your ‘Nature Walks’: a themed workshop! If you have an artistic streak, you’ll find plenty of inspiration at a Land Art workshop or during a painting class… all whilst using the tools that Mother Nature provides.

On the other hand, if it’s the reward at the end of the walk that motivates you, or if you’d like to treat your taste buds during this experience, it’s best to opt for a “Nature Walk” on the “Local Produce” theme. You’ll have the chance to visit a vineyard and taste local wines, or explore a shellfish farm and enjoy a plate of oysters with your drink.

Whichever of these ‘Nature Walks’ takes your fancy, we recommend that you bring a good pair of walking boots, a bottle of water and a cap for each one, as well as sun cream during the summer months.

For keen birdwatchers, do remember to bring a pair of binoculars with you – it will make the experience all the more memorable.
