A walk around the Étang de Thau

An iconic 57-kilometre route that circles the Thau lagoon in its entirety, starting from Sète and following almost exclusively cycle paths and greenways. Between the Sète coastline and its coves, the oyster beds stretching as far as the eye can see, the fishing village of Bouzigues and the Pointe des Onglous where the Canal du Midi meets the lagoon, every kilometre offers a new landscape and a good reason to stop.

The Angle Cove

Starting from Balaruc-le-Vieux, this 9.6 km round-trip walk follows the Thau lagoon along the old railway line, now converted into a cycle path, through a wild wetland area home to flamingos, egrets, herons and white stilted birds. A route accessible to all, which reveals the Crique de l’Angle and its unspoilt landscapes as you walk, before arriving at a viewpoint overlooking the oyster-farming village of Bouzigues.

Loop No. 26

Starting from Marseillan, this loop of over 60 km, reserved for experienced cyclists, takes you through the vineyards and authentic villages of the Pézenas region, with superb views of the Thau lagoon and the mountains of the Haut-Languedoc. From the majestic Valmagne Abbey to the narrow streets of Pézenas, the town of Molière, and the return journey along the greenway, this is one of the richest and most varied routes in the Thau Archipelago.

The 3-Museum Tour

Starting from Loupian, this route takes you on a journey of discovery through the cultural and natural heritage of the Thau basin, all the way to Balaruc-les-Bains. From the Gallo-Roman archaeological site of Villa Loupian, the Thau Lagoon Ethnographic Museum in Bouzigues and the Ancient Mediterranean Garden, every stop invites you to linger, not forgetting a gourmet break to sample the oysters farmed in the lagoon’s waters.
