Top things to do at sunset in the Thau Archipelago

Kayakmed

We’re kicking things off in style with a sea kayaking trip on the Thau basin. Before you set off onto the water with your paddle, let your instructor tell you what to expect on this tour with the evocative name “Sun Sète” (6pm–9pm). Once you’ve had your introduction, you can finally head for Les Thocs, a true Languedoc lagoon. It is there that you’ll witness the spectacle of the setting sun whilst sipping a glass of local Muscat.

Bonus: Kayakmed is Famille Plus certified. This means your children can join you from the age of 6 and will receive special attention from your guide.

In July and August, you can see a catamaran setting sail shortly before sunset… It’s the Mansathau!

Setting off from Mèze, it offers trips 45 minutes before nightfall. Gliding gently across the Bassin de Thau, it offers you a unique view of the Carroux massif and the foothills of the Cévennes. You can even take the opportunity to chat with the captain, a former oyster farmer, who will be delighted to share his stories and experiences.

Tiki Centre

A Muscat wine tasting? Out in the middle of the Bassin de Thau? On a paddleboard? That’s the slightly mad experience Tiki Center invites you to enjoy on sunny days.

Open to everyone from beginners to experienced paddlers, this unique outing will take you out onto the lakes around Montpellier. We’ll stop at the perfect moment as the day draws to a close to enjoy a glass of wine, with your feet in the water or sitting on your paddleboard, surrounded by friends or family. Is this your dream?

Longo Maï

To enjoy the sea breeze as the day draws to a close, the Longo Maï is the place to be. In a small group (maximum 10 people), climb aboard this catamaran and let yourself be guided by the sound of lapping water on this “Evening” cruise.

For the more adventurous among you, there’s even the chance to go for a swim before gathering for a catered aperitif (optional).

The Emmuscades

This time, rather than escaping out onto the water, we’re inviting you to immerse yourself in the vineyards during the Emmuscades. This major event in the Thau Archipelago is filled with the scent of grapes, the song of cicadas and the warmth of the sun. For the occasion, four wine estates open their doors for a convivial evening.

Bring your own picnic, chat with the owners, and treat yourself to a glass of Muscat and some brasucade, before taking your seat amongst the vines for a rather special film screening.

The Thau Summer Festival

Loupian, Montbazin, Frontignan, Bouzigues, Mèze, Mireval, Balaruc-les-Bains, Sète… One date = one town to sample wines and local produce by the lagoon. Join us every Thursday throughout the summer to enjoy the view as the light fades, whilst savouring: tielles, shellfish, cakes, chocolates, ice creams…

The terraces of the Thau Archipelago

The terraces of the Thau Archipelago are a simple yet reliable choice for enjoying a sunset with a cocktail in hand. Whether on a rooftop or by the shores of the Thau lagoon, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
