DISCOVER THE EMMUSCADES

An‘Emmuscade’ –don’t bother looking it up in the dictionary, the word doesn’t exist. But it smells of grapes, it makes us hear the cicadas and reach for our sunglasses so we can admire the view without being dazzled!

What are the Emmuscades?

So, the word piqued my curiosity; I Googled it and came across a link to the Tourist Office website. From what I can gather: films in the vineyards, Muscat wine tastings and a friendly atmosphere. My curiosity is ‘piqued and drives me’ to take part.

I invite Christel, Fanny and Amélie, my three best friends. We arrive at the heart of a vineyard. At the entrance, we’re given a tasting ticket for a glass of Muscat and another for a tray of mussels cooked over a wood fire.

A film screening amidst the vineyards

The fairy lights are up, and the tables and benches are set out to create a cosy atmosphere. The little pile of wood is there too. The mussels can be cooked to perfection there. The tasting evening can begin.

To round off the evening, we’ve brought our picnic. One of us gets up to fetch our glasses. Because the summers are hot, and because Frontignan is renowned for its Muscat, the Emmuscades invite us to savour this fabulous wine, whether it’s naturally sweet, dry, or a fortified wine. A real treat!

We also enjoy a hearty, informal meal of mussels. The setting is exceptional, with views over the vineyards and, depending on the estate hosting the event, views of the sea or the Gardiole. And because it would be a shame to part ways on such a high note, the evening ends with a film screened outdoors on a big screen.

Are you intrigued too? Fancy spending a wonderful evening? Four films are screened at the vineyards between July and August.
