Where can you go for a stroll on the beach in the Thau Archipelago?

When I need a break or to recharge my batteries, there’s nothing quite like a walk on the beach. The sand crunching under my feet, the sound of the waves, the sea spray… It’s just the boost I need to get back on track.

If you’re on holiday in the Thau Archipelago, here are a few ideas for walks along the beach to help you recharge your batteries and top up your energy levels in winter and spring.

Gourmet break option

Easily accessible by bus, bike or car, Lido Beach is a must-see during a stay in Sète. You can stroll along the sand for several kilometres (all the way to Marseillan) and enjoy a lovely view of Mont Saint-Clair. A specially designed path allows you to cycle or push a pram along the beach. You’ll find outdoor cafés where you can enjoy a hot drink and a crêpe whilst soaking up the gentle sunshine, and the luckiest children can even have a go on a lovely carousel.

If this walk in the fresh air has made you fancy warming up a bit, do pop into one of Sète’s many museums. A pass also allows you to visit these must-see cultural attractions at a discounted rate.

For building sandcastles

Head to Frontignan and Aresquiers Beach for a soothing moment alone with the vast blue sea. This beach, which feels like the end of the world, is a true haven of peace where you’ll find beautiful shells, a few pebbles smoothed by the waves, and even some driftwood. All these treasures that your children will love collecting to decorate their sandcastle whilst you enjoy the sound of the waves and the sea air.

Have you fallen in love with the area? You can prolong the pleasure by treating yourself to a stroll along the Bois des Aresquiers hiking trail. This 9 km loop, with no significant elevation gain, winds through ponds and pine forests and is ideal for birdwatching.

After a good meal

A holiday in the Thau Archipelago promises delicious Mediterranean cuisine and heart-warming specialities, perfect for treating yourself when the temperature drops. My favourites: the restaurants located on the harbour at Mèze and along the promenade at Balaruc-les-Bains. The view is superb, and you can treat yourself to a post-lunch stroll along the lagoon, with your feet in the sand.

If you opt for the port of Mèze, take a detour through the town centre before lunch. You’re sure to be charmed by its narrow streets. If you’ve chosen Balaruc-les-Bains, extend your stroll along the promenade towards the thermal baths, where you’ll discover the hut where the Balaruc fisherman Laurent Spinosi used to welcome his friend Georges Brassens, along with its trompe l’œil mural.
